Moncur Participates in 2nd Annual Southfield CommUNITY Cup
Team Moncur participated in the second annual Southfield CommUNITY Cup challenge, where we battled it out against 18 other local businesses in the area.

It’s always interesting to see how people’s competitive sides come out when playing a sport, but we found ourselves having a blast — that’s what activities like this are all about anyway, right?
We even got to help plan the Amazing Race activity, which was, in our biased opinion, the most fun event of the entire competition! With a smattering of new Moncur employees recently added to our team, this experience has proven to be a great way to bond with one another.
Here’s a glimpse into this year’s games:
Kickball Tournament
The first event was a kickball tournament held at Inglenook Park, located right near the Southfield Centrepolis. Our head coach (and senior copywriter), Drew, put together a stellar lineup, and we reviewed our positions over a tasty pizza lunch.
One of the best parts of the CommUNITY Cup was seeing our team come together on the kickball field, and work to defend all the bases. We had some pretty stellar plays along with lots of laughter, but ended up getting knocked out of the tournament after the first round.
One thing about Moncur though, is that we all have a good sense of humor, so we didn’t let the loss ruin our fun — we’re still champions in our eyes, and that’s all that matters…

Trivia
On July 19, companies gathered at the Towne Square in Southfield to play trivia. Four ladies from Moncur teamed up to participate under the name, ‘Moncur Mermaids’. Various tricky trivia questions were asked like, “Name the most visited website.” Teams then had to agree on what they thought was the best answer. Moncur did great in the first half, but ended up losing the lead in the second round. Our tip for future trivia competitions? Go with your first instinct — always!
Although we didn’t win the game, we had a great time and enjoyed each other’s company with some well-deserved cocktails.
Volleyball
This year’s new event addition to the CommUNITY Cup included a volleyball match on July 26 — one of the hottest days all summer long. We didn’t have a chance to strategize before the event, but luckily we had time to sneak in a practice sesh before the match.
Although we played our butts off, we’re no volleyball experts and we definitely felt the heat. No trophy might’ve been won this time, but on the flip side, everyone enjoyed getting outside to cheer the team on and play in the sand.

Amazing Race
The Amazing Race was arguably the most fun event of the CommUNITY Cup — four of our team members drove and ran around Southfield, with the goal of accomplishing as many challenges as possible.
Challenges included things like finding specific statues and landmarks in the area, having strangers dance the Macarena with us, taking a picture with the mayor, and lots of other funny moments. Similar to a scavenger hunt, each challenge completed was documented on social media with the hashtag #SouthfieldSpirit!
Once again, we gave it our all, but didn’t quite take the top spot. However, we did get to know our way around Southfield better than ever before, and laughed until our stomachs hurt.

Stuff the Bus
Throughout all of the CommUNITY Cup festivities, companies were challenged to collect school supplies for the final ‘Stuff the Bus’ event. For the grand finale challenge, all businesses had bust out the crayons and construction paper to decorate a poster that would accompany their donations. The most creatively decorated poster would be the winner of the final challenge.
While we (super sadly) didn’t place in the poster competition, Southfield Public Schools Administration was overjoyed by the outpouring of support that was given to the schools. Even Southfield Mayor Ken Siver was at the event to show support of everyone’s awesome charitable achievement! Props to all the companies that participated in this event and helped support the local community.
Though we didn’t take the top spot in the CommUNITY Cup competition (congrats, Veoneer!), between the camaraderie we built, the fun that was had, and the amount of money and school supplies we were able to donate, if you ask us, it was still a win in the end.
Special thanks to the City of Southfield for organizing this incredible event — we look forward to participating next year!
